E Bikes in Rancho Palos Verdes
E bike riding is all the rave! For now, however, there are new regulations in Rancho Palos Verdes:
New E-Bike Regulations in Rancho Palos Verdes
The City Council of Rancho Palos Verdes has recently expanded its rules on e-bikes, including fines and stricter enforcement. Here’s what you need to know:
Where You Can’t Ride: E-bikes are not allowed on:
Hiking and riding trails
Fire protection roads
City parks, beaches, and recreational areas
Fines for Violations:
First violation: Warning
Second violation: $500 fine
Third violation: $750 fine
The City Council decided to keep fines lower to allow for education before enforcement. There will be an emphasis on educating residents about the rules, especially students.
Helmet Requirements: Riders of e-bikes must wear helmets. Initially, this rule only applied to those under 18, but it will now apply to all riders, as some e-bikes are powerful enough to be considered similar to electric motorcycles.
Speed and Stunts:
Racing or speed contests on e-bikes are banned.
Acrobatic or stunt riding is also not allowed.
Education and Awareness: The city is launching an educational campaign to inform people about these new regulations. For example, Ridgecrest Intermediate School has an e-bike safety program where students must complete training to get an e-bike parking sticker.
Fines for Parents: For younger riders who violate the rules, parents may be held financially responsible for fines.
These changes are meant to improve safety and awareness for e-bike users in Rancho Palos Verdes.
